Located on a constricted urban site, the Willard K-8 School features a compact building footprint that creates a flexible learning environment.  A technology suite made up of the media center and several computer labs occupies the heart of the building and divides the two main academic houses.  Grades K-5 are housed in a two-story wing, with older students located on the upper floor.

A pair of enclosed courtyards are designed to bring natural light into the center of the building.  The K-5 courtyard will allow access to the courtyard from the media center and will provide many opportunities for extended learning.  The 6-8 courtyard is surrounded by a suite of project labs and art classrooms. This configuration will give art students the opportunity to experience nature within a safe, controlled environment.

Willard is the first phase of a $160 million district-wide building program that will result in the construction of four new K-8 Schools and a new 1,600-student high school for the urban community of Warren, Ohio.
