When the Youngstown City Schools consolidated from three high school buildings to two, the existing Chaney High School had to be completely renovated and a new addition constructed to double its size to accommodate the increased student body and additional programmed spaces.

The new addition includes a 1,150 seat spectator gymnasium with locker rooms, music and art suites, and kitchen.  Due to tight site constraints, a new three story wing houses academic functions with an all science floor at the top.  Also, a multi-level Media Center addition was constructed at the front of the building.

In the renovated portion of the building, a new cafeteria three times the size of the original was created out of an old vocational wing.  Some former classroom areas were renovated to accommodate expanded administrative functions and the existing auditorium was transformed into a contemporary performance space.
